PEAS - Fostering Environmental Awareness in Children
Programme for Environmental Awareness in Schools works towards environmental awareness among school children. The need of the hour is to tackle the urgent issues that are threatening the existence of life. PEAS is a nationwide programme aiming to motivate students into action. The programme is already being implemented in different cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Madurai, Chennai, Delhi, and Visakhapatnam. Educationists and environmentalists in different parts of the country are reaching out to help and strengthen the PEAS network. When children are in the budding stage with tender minds, the educational process should prepare them to face various natural and unnatural threats in the society. They must be properly guided and guarded. PEAS is committed to this kind of awareness activities to protect the environment. In the words of the late Dr. Ken Gnanakan – Chairman, PEAS, children must accept the need for change in attitudes so that the future of our world is secure.
Why PEAS?
Our world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges, from climate change and habitat destruction to plastic pollution and resource depletion. As an educational institution, we recognize the pivotal role we play in shaping the environmental attitudes and behaviors of our future leaders. PEAS offers a structured approach to environmental awareness, helping students become active participants in the global movement for a sustainable future.
Programme Components:
Curriculum Integration: PEAS is seamlessly integrated into our academic curriculum, spanning various subjects, including science, geography, and ethics. Students engage in discussions and projects that explore real-world environmental issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges our planet faces.
Eco-Clubs: Our Eco-Clubs are platforms for students to actively participate in environmental initiatives. From tree planting and recycling drives to wildlife preservation projects, these clubs provide hands-on experiences and empower students to make a tangible impact.
Sustainability Workshops: Regular workshops are conducted to educate students on sustainable living practices, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and responsible consumption. These workshops empower students with the knowledge to implement sustainable habits in their daily lives.
Outdoor Education: Our school believes in the power of outdoor education. Through field trips and nature excursions, students connect with the natural world, building a strong connection with the environment.
Awareness Campaigns: PEAS organises awareness campaigns that are driven by students. These campaigns address pressing environmental issues, encouraging a school-wide commitment to change.
Get Involved:
We encourage everyone in the school community to get involved in Green Horizons. Parents, students, and teachers can participate in various ways, from volunteering in eco-club activities to supporting awareness campaigns. Together, we can make a significant difference.
Measuring Impact:
PEAS believes in accountability. We regularly assess the program's impact through surveys, student projects, and environmental metrics to gauge progress and identify areas for improvement.
PEAS is more than just a programme; it's a commitment to a sustainable future. By fostering environmental awareness in our school, we hope to inspire students to become responsible global citizens who cherish and protect our planet. Join us on our journey towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world. Together, we can make a world of difference
